RESPECT FOR TEACHERS – A SUPREME VIRTUE
Respect for teachers has always been held in high regard since ancient times. Even state leaders, apart from their ministers, had their trusted mentors and spiritual guides, who were undoubtedly worthy of respect and honor. In this context, our country’s leader, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, emphasized during a meeting with members of the Constitutional Commission on June 20, 2022: “Respect for teachers must find its reflection in our Constitution.”
In the society building the New Uzbekistan, showing appropriate respect and honor to educators and teachers who provide knowledge and upbringing to the younger generation is a priority for our President. This principle is also being firmly established in our updated laws.
The respect for teachers is a legacy passed down from our ancestors. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) highlighted the status of teachers in his Hadiths, saying:
“Indeed, Allah, His angels, the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, even the ant in its nest and the fish in the sea, send blessings upon the one who teaches goodness to others.”
As Jalaluddin Rumi described:
“Whoever lacks a mentor, their foundation is fragile;
They are strangers to the path of meaning, without a guide.”
The great poet and thinker, Alisher Navoi, expressed the value of teachers in these lines:
“Whoever taught you even a single letter with effort,
Their right cannot be repaid, even with a hundred treasures.”
Both Mavlono Rumi and Alisher Navoi elevated the status of teachers, while the great Amir Temur, upon his death, willed that his body be laid at the feet of his mentor, Said Baraka.
The Hero of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Oripov, wrote the following lines on the subject:
“From you begins the essence of thought,
Kind teachers, we thank you!”
A teacher is as honorable as a parent. Truly, in this life, teaching is one of the highest callings. To achieve this status, one must work tirelessly and dedicate themselves fully. Immense effort, relentless pursuit of knowledge, and sharing the jewels of wisdom with students elevate the prestige of teaching. Teachers who labor diligently and educate their students will eventually see the fruits of their efforts, as their students surpass them in achievements.
As the saying goes, “A student without a teacher stumbles in all directions.” Indeed, this is true. With a teacher, the path we could traverse in one day might take a month without guidance. Behind every great individual stand the mothers who nurtured them and the teachers who guided and educated them.
In this regard, I would like to express my gratitude to my IT and computer science teacher, Atakhonova Viloyat, from School No. 32 in Mirishkor district, who sparked my interest in IT and computers during my school years. Additionally, I am grateful to the school principal, who supported us through challenges, and to my scientific advisor, Akbar Kodirov, an assistant lecturer at Shahrisabz State Pedagogical Institute, for guiding us along the right path after we joined the ranks of university students.
If our parents brought us from the heavens to the earth, our teachers are the ones who lift us from the earth to the heavens. We may never be able to repay the health, time, and effort our devoted and compassionate teachers invested in us. However, it is our duty, both as students and as individuals, to honor them, bring light to their faces, and show them the respect and gratitude they deserve. Just as we seek the blessings of our parents, we must also earn the blessings of our teachers!
