Leaf

Oh leaf, why did you fall?
You fell — and became my heart, after all.
Memories of the past came rushing near,
You fell — and became my cry, my tear.

You drift now, carried by the breeze,
My eyes still follow your fading trace.
If only you had taken with your flight
The cold feelings buried deep inside.

You once were the tree’s true grace,
Giving shade with your gentle face.
But alas — winter’s cruel, cold might
Turned your joy to a yellowed blight.

Oh my leaf, why did you fall?
You fell — and became my soul, my all.
Dropped softly, gently to the ground,
Crushed by those who feel no sound.
