Tears in My Father’s Eyes

If only I could tell the joy I feel,
If only I could stop these tears somehow.
My father’s eyes are shining, full of tears—
If only I could hold him tightly now.
So long I waited for this long-awaited day,
So long I dreamed of student life and joy.
At last it came—I whispered to myself:
“You did it now, you overcame it all.”
Ah… I keep telling softly to my heart,
“Have you not carried sorrow all this time?
Did not your parents wait for this proud day?”
You did it now—you reached the highest climb.
Did they not say that you would surely fail?
Did you not say, “One day you all will see?”
Ah… I keep whispering quietly again:
“You did it now, you proved what you could be.”
Patience itself is truly heaven’s gift,
Just wait with faith and dreams will come to you.
If you believe in Allah with your heart,
He gives His blessings, faithful, kind and true.
Ah… I keep saying proudly to my soul:
You made it through—yes, every dream came true.
You made it through, you did it all at last—
You did what once you thought you couldn’t do.
