AND YET PEACE, YET JOY, YET ETERNITY-Jay Basu

AND YET PEACE, YET JOY, YET ETERNITY

weeping may last through the night

but joy comes with the morning

[Psalm 30: 5]

joy is that rare species of insect

that dies in the moment of birth

[Soren Kierkegaard]

Yet there is joy, there’s peace and there’s eternity

[Rabindranath Tagore]

THERE IS GRIEF AND THERE IS DEATH

Grief rips through the heart

Pitted against death, and partings

Seem to pierce the tryst with love and life

Yet there is joy, there’s peace and there’s eternity

In the endless flow of life

In the undying shine of the sun, and

The hide and seek of the beaming moon

With the wayward drift of cloud veils never stops

The spring flowers bloom to bask and bathe

In the sun’s warmth and the moon’s cool lustre

The waves come cresting

And rushing and roaring on as ever

To roll and loll on the sands

Only waning down their crests for a moment

And receding away only

To breathe rest in deep waters

Sooner they come back

To quench the thirst of the sands

As they break into

Foaming and frothing

Upon the shores and crags

And make them wet with

Kisses wooing the eternity

Buds spring to the twigs as the blossoms drop

Nowhere is there the final and bleeding end to

Life that never wears thin in the scheme of things

Nothing that is in being is ever lost for ever

[Rabindranath Tagore transcreated from his

poem: Āchhe Dukho, Āchhe Mrityu
